CareAcademy covers several key OSHA topics across multiple classes:
- Bloodborne pathogens and personal protective equipment are covered in Maintaining a Clean & Healthy Environment (Infection Control) (CARE0700)
- Workplace safety is covered in What Does It Mean To Be A Professional Team Member? (CARE0100)
- Back safety is covered in Assisting with Personal Care Through ADLs (CARE0300)
- Chemical safety is covered in Light Housekeeping for Professional Team Members (CARE1000)
A Few Notes on OSHA Training:
CareAcademy has spoken extensively with OSHA Compliance. In summary, it is up to the employer to decide what risks their employees are exposed to and decide what training they would like to provide. Please see bullet points below. You can also check this website for further information: https://www.usfosha.com/osha-articles/osha-certification.aspx
- OSHA does not certify any training materials or workers.
- Some employers want to be issued an official Department of Labor OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour card. Most workers do not need an official DOL card to remain OSHA compliant, and in fact, the 10- or 30-hour cards may not cover what your specific industry (i.e., home care/home health) requires. These official Department of Labor cards are required in many states and on certain types of job sites, such as any governmental work site, oil rigs, or in certain states (such as the state of New York). At this time no states require OSHA training cards for health/home care.
- Training is voluntary and OSHA has released guidelines for training, but these are not themselves a standard. The rule of thumb is: train your employees on what they need to know to keep themselves and others safe on the worksite. OSHA doesn't necessarily know what standards are applicable to each worksite, so determining proper training is the job of employers.
- The Home Health Care Safety and Health Topics link on the OSHA website is a very good starting point for identifying the hazards for home health and home care: https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/home_healthcare/index.html
